With the Summer 2019 anime season reaching or passing the halfway point for most series, I thought it would be a great time as any to look at (or profusely gush over) at the music. More specifically, the many anime openings that are just great listen to. Join me in this sixth edition of Anime Alcove List Tuesday as I list my top 5 anime openings for the Summer 2019 season. Yeah, the title says it all really….
Overview
I really wish I could include more than 5 entries since this season has had some great ones not only in terms of music but also animation to go along with it. Likewise, the rules are simple and only rule is that the anime on the list must apart of the Summer 2019 lineup. With that out of the way, here are the entries
in no particular order!
5. Onegai Muscle – How Many Kilograms are the Dumbbells You Lift? (Danberu Nan Kiro Moteru?)
The first entry is actually a series I have been enjoying and has surprised me quite abit. Expecting the same type of fanservice from the manga to be on display, it has been relatively tame. There are times when does try to sneak it in, but never in your face about it. Also, being someone not too enthusiastic about exercising, I learned so much about exercise and physical health already. Very informative and fun! As for the opening theme, that same kind of enthusiastic fervor carries over in the upbeat tempo and rhythmic vocals. Plus, I love hearing the characters pronounce muscle and macho.
4. FLARE – Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest (Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō)
While I can’t say that I’m exactly finding Arifureta a joy to watch, but the opening theme is actually one of the best (in my opinion). If the clean English vocals and elegant melody don’t catch you off guard, the impromptu jazz will. Now, if only the series quality will match it…
3. Rakuen Toshi – Cop Craft (Cop Craft: Dragnet Mirage Reloaded)
When it comes to music in general, Cop Craft soundtrack is nothing short of amazing. With pieces borrowing from ethic and jazz music, I can’t wait to get my hands on the soundtrack release to really go in deep. That being said, the opening is nothing short of amazing. Really loving the brass and piano parts.
2. Inferno – Fire Force (En’en no Shōbōtai)
Every cool and firey opening theme. The pun was intended. It is to be expected for a series of this type, but the vocals and instruments really makes it feel right alongside the choreographed animation.
1. Wa! Moon! dass! cry – Wasteful Days of High School Girls (Joshikousei no Mudazukai)
Nonsensical, confusing, and awkward. Those are all words that describe the high school experience and pretty much describes the lyrics for this series. Even with the lyrics, I still have no idea what is going on or what it is all supposed to mean. Regardless, a catchy song like this perfectly matches the level of excitement and fun to be had from partaking of this anime.
What anime openings from the Summer 2019 season are you enjoying? Next week, I will be closing themes.
Fire Force is a favorite of mine, but I also love the opening theme for to the abandoned Sacred Beasts. Here is a link to it: https://youtu.be/8D1aBA7L2bQ

Was very tempted to add in place of Arifureta when I made the list. Kind of still regretting it, lol.

Yeah, Cop Craft’s music is excellent. I really like the jazz style of it, maybe a bit of a Cowboy Bebop feel. I really like the OP sequence too, even if the animation in the show’s been a little uneven so far.

Yeah, actually went ahead and order the OST from CDJapan a few days ago. As for the animation, yeah, it is really shoddy to say the least. Just seen episode 7 yesterday and counted about 6 errors. Not sure if is the animators on a strict time table or what. Hopefully it is something they fix for the home release.

From your list I like Dumbell and Cop Craft. Astra has a decent oppy tune, although many of the episodes don’t seem to bother to play the OP.
