With the Summer 2019 anime season reaching or passing the halfway point for most series, I thought it would be a great time as any to look at (or profusely gush over) at the music. More specifically, the many anime openings that are just great listen to. Join me in this sixth edition of Anime Alcove List Tuesday as I list my top 5 anime openings for the Summer 2019 season. Yeah, the title says it all really….
The sweltering summer heat and pursuit to stay cool always get me in a certain mood. The mood to do absolutely nothing! Often spending most of my time gaming or goofing often, I made it a ritual to read come August to prepare me for the school year. With those days long gone and finding manga, light novels, and the occasional book non-related to the aforementioned cross into my hands nowadays when free time permits, I decided to start the tradition anew with a different purpose and goal in mind. Finally getting ready to start my new job position in earnest this month and my time going back to what it was, I decided to do something I a little different for the rest of the year.
By now, I’m sure the news of the arson attack that was carried out against Kyoto Animation has made the rounds. According to the reports, an unidentified 41-year-old male doused gasoline inside the building and some splashed on workers before shouting the phrase “You die!” and setting it ablaze. As of writing this, there have been at least 33 people cited as dead. Known for their work with titles such as K-On and Violet Evergarden, my heart and sincerest prayers go out to the victims and their families. If you would like to show your support, Sentaifilmworks has made a Gofundme page in response to the relief of the studio and affected parties. You can find the link here in order to donate.
Hard to believe that it has been 21 years since today that Serial Experiments Lain first aired. Created by Yasuyuki Ueda and staffed by Ryutaro Nakamrua (director), Yoshitoshi ABe (character designer), and Chiaki J. Konaka (screenplay writer), the science fiction series follows middle school student Lain Iwakura as she discovers the communication network called the “Wired”. With musings on identity, real vs virtual, and the essences of technology and what role it plays in the life we live, the series is a tour de force of philosophy and storytelling that remains undisputedly relevant even to this day. So if you are ever in the market for late 90’s anime that is truly ahead of its time, this would be the one to pick up!
Wow, how much more do we have to go? Only six more months left in this year? Time really flies by! Having numerous events occur in my life both good and bad since my last update, I’m happy that July and part of August will allow me some semblance of downtime and relaxation that I desperately need. Knowing that I have a few outstanding (tentative) projects in the wings, there will be a few changes. What changes you ask? I know you didn’t ask, but let’s discuss the rundown after the jump. Does anybody actually read anything I post? Probably not…
In another month, we prepare to enter the Summer 2019 season of anime. With Spring titles entering the final phases or hitting the halfway mark to be carried forward, now would be a perfect time as any to see what July has in store. Not going over the full listing, this fifth entry of Anime Alcove List Tuesday we be going over yet again 5 titles that seem to be the most interesting to me or anticipating.
Attempting to at least have these updates done near the beginning of week (or 2nd day of the month), the opportunity still gives me chance to greet the month of May. Hard to believe we are almost at the halfway point of the year and with my birthday being on the 8th, it is a harsh, but clear reminder that time waits for no man. So what is on the docket for this month? Well, a lot actually….so might as well make this for June and July as well.
The month of March seems like it lasted forever, but we are finally entering April! It is a time for unexpected rain showers, allergies, and for many, Spring Break! Well, all except for me. After getting my two day job schedules shifted yet again, most of my plans have slightly changed, but largely remains the same. What is in store for this month? Find out after the jump!
As the curtain drops on yet another season of anime titles and April signaling the advent of the Spring 2019 crowd, now seems like a good time as ever on my part to take a cursory glance at what is in store. After falling behind and getting caught up on the Winter season, what will be on my list for Spring? Time for the return and 4th entry of Anime Alcove List Tuesday.
Can’t say that March has come in like a lion yet, but guess the same can be applied to my own progress. After dealing with the month of February, the month where everyone decides to get sick and pass germs like the plague, I am finding myself slowly recovering from my own bout with a less than forgiving cold. Nonetheless, feeling back up to speed and ready to get down to business, it seems like this will be a pretty busy month in more ways than one.
