[Video Game Review] Trillion: God of Destruction

trillion box

How in the Underworld do you defeat an evil deity with a trillion hit points? Level grind like there is no tomorrow? Get the best equipment money can buy? Participate in a bunch of random events that have no relevance whatsoever in getting tougher? Well, it appears that you have to do all of that and then some in Compile Heart’s newest endeavor and first entry in the “Number 1 House in Hell” or “Makai Ichiban Kan” series, Trillion: God of Destruction. Bringing together a surprising ensemble of talent like director and designer of Disgaea 4 – Masahiro Yamamoto and the series esteemed music composer Tenpei Sato, it’s certainly a far cry from the usual territory the company is used to traversing. However, for this title and entry in particular – I have to say that I’m mildly impressed of what it has to offer.

[Video Game Review] Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & The Monster Seal

Dungeon Travelers 2 BoxDeveloped by Aquaplus & Sting, Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & The Monster Seal is a dungeon crawler role-playing game (DRPG for short) that is similar to many of its other brethren such as Demon Gaze and Operation Abyss. Knowing the Vita to be a haven for many unscrupulous titles that many Western gamers (unless of a certain audience) wouldn’t touch and the demo version reinforcing that point, I did honestly feel that a decent game could be found behind the fluff. Lo and behold, after playing the complete version, I am glad to say that the sentiment definitely holds true in some respects and should come of a surprise to many that dare take it on.

[Visual Novel Review] Amnesia: Memories

Amnesia_keyart_1000pxDeveloped by Idea Factory under its Otome game brand Otomate, Amnesia: Memories is among one of the companies pioneering titles that finally gets a western release. And while Otoge or Otome games are meant to cater specifically toward a female audience, a male audience can also partake of them. The story puts players into the shoes of an unnamed female protagonist that has lost her memories after a strange incident. With help of mysterious young boy named Orion, the two work together to help make sense of the heroine’s past life, while trying not raise suspicion from friends and a boyfriend she never knew existed.

[Video Game Review] Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Century

HDN Rebirth 3 boxGiven the fact that most remakes and reboots range between doing exceptionally well for themselves to outright terrible, tracking the Hyperdimension Neptunia series conversion from the Playstation 3 to Vita has been a great joy and can say that the games definitely belong in the former category. Starting with Rebirth 1 that amended gameplay mechanics and technical issues all the way up until the many spinoffs that traded ideas between the mainline titles, this little brand has come along way. With Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 3, the sentiment of improvement is still going strong and proves to make this entry somewhat more than another incremental enhanced port.

[Video Game Review] Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed

hyperdimension-neptunia-u-action-unleashed box-2015-04-03-11From the creative impulses that brought you the Senran Kagura and OneChanbara series, Tamsoft lends its “unique guidance” to Complie Heart once again for the next entry in the Neptunia catalog, Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, an action based spinoff that shares close similarities to the Senran Kagura and Dyntasy Warriors family. If you always dreamed of laying down the law to a hoard of Doogos or familiar looking green pipes that Nintendo would most likely file a lawsuit over  – the dream is now a reality.

[Video Game Review] Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart

Hyperdevotion Noire Box

Sting Entertainment and Compile Heart partner up once again after their last collaboration to create Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart, a spin-off the Neptunia franchise. From the minds that brought us Yggdra Union and Riviera: The Promised Land, this certainly isn’t new territory for Sting or Compile Heart that are both known for strategic infused titles, but bringing the two together does make for an interesting combination and use of the Neptunia brand. In a myriad of ways, this little spin-off is better than the main series, but not completely without a few nagging issues.

[Video Game Review] Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland

Rorona Plus logo

Atelier Rorona Plus is a shot at redemption for a franchise title that so desperately wants it, would benefit from it, but not necessarily because it is in need of it. Either way, it is a fine chance for those new to the Arland saga to jump in and veterans to come back to more of the same, if they so desire to.

[Video Game Review] Demon Gaze

Demon Gaze BoxGiven that I am on an extensive blogging break this summer due to suffering from crippling writers block and studying for the upcoming exams this fall – I thought I would at least return long enough to compose a post or two starting with reviewing a few games I cleared from my list last month ago. One of which is Demon Gaze, an 1st person dungeon crawling RPG that I had being curious about and probably would of never played if I waited any later.
